What exactly is the Fruit of the Spirit??
When we believe in Jesus Christ and put our trust in Him, God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now the very presence of God fills us and lives in us. We now have the power of God … through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our life.
When we are struggling with sin and temptation … the Holy Spirit gives us power to resist the sin and do what is right.
When we are sad, discouraged, lonely … the Holy Spirit comforts our heart. He primarily does this through the Word of God (the Bible). The Holy Spirit will help us as we read the Bible and will lead us to promises of God’s love and care for us.
When we are confused and don’t know what to do … the Holy Spirit will guide us. He primarily does this through the Word of God. The Bible was written by the Holy Spirit … so the Holy Spirit uses it to help us!
The Fruit of the Spirit can be found in Galatians 5:22-23, and is a list of the character qualities God develops in our life through the power of the Holy Spirit.
First on the list of the Fruit of the Spirit is … LOVE.
When we believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit pours out God’s LOVE into our hearts!
Why would He do this??
So that we, in turn, can pour God’s LOVE out through our lives to others.
We are only able to do this through the power of the Holy Spirit.
God’s LOVE, at work in our lives, will naturally result in JOY.
JOY is second on the list of the Fruit of the Spirit.
JOY cannot be found in our circumstances. JOY can only be available through the power of the Holy Spirit.
No matter the situation … whether good times or hard times, no matter difficulties or suffering … the Holy Spirit can give us JOY through it all. He does this primarily through the Word of God (which the Holy Spirit wrote). We are only able to have JOY through the power of the Holy Spirit.
As was stated yesterday, JOY and PEACE are the result of our faith … we have to believe in God and trust God!
We choose to believe God is good.
We choose to believe God is trustworthy.
We choose to believe God is faithful!
By faith we REJOICE in who God is! … and as we do so, the Holy Spirit fills our hearts with supernatural PEACE!
“The PEACE of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:7
Our world is going through a stormy tempest! Wild, angry winds are raging all around! Yet we rest secure in the LOVE of God … which causes our hearts to REJOICE in the faithfulness of God … which covers and protects our hearts with a supernatural PEACE from God.
The fruit of the Spirit is PEACE!
