There is so much confusion in our world as to “what is good?”
How do we know what is good or not good??
How do we know what is true or not true??
How do we navigate the confusion?
How do we make decisions … complicated decisions, with far-reaching consequences … when we don’t know what is good or true anymore??
God himself will help us know what is good!
God himself will help us know what is true!
God himself will help guide us in the complicated, confusing decisions we have to make.
How??
How will God do this??
If we love and follow Jesus Christ, God gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us!
When we turn from our sin and repent to God of all the bad things we have done, God will take all the bad away. And in turn, God will give us a fresh new clean start. Part of this fresh clean new life is the presence of the Holy Spirit in us!
The Holy Spirit is God himself !
The Holy Spirit fills our life with the very presence and goodness of God himself!
Even though we are surrounded by chaos and confusion swirling all around us, we can know with absolute certainty what is good … and what is true … because the Holy Spirit fills our life with goodness.
How? How does the Holy Spirit fill our life with goodness??
The Holy Spirit wrote a book from God especially for us! This special book from God to us is the Bible. It is referred to as “the Sword of the Spirit” (- Ephesians 6:17).
It is with the Sword of the Spirit [the Bible] that we can combat evil, lies, and darkness.
* The Sword of the Spirit will show us what is good!
* The Sword of the Spirit will show us what is true!
* The Sword of the Spirit will develop goodness in our life!
As we read the Word of God [the Bible] the Holy Spirit will help us understand what we are reading. The Holy Spirit will help us make sense and apply what we are reading to what we are facing in life.
As the Holy Spirit helps, teaches, and guides us … the result/evidence will be goodness in our decisions … goodness in our character … goodness in our thoughts … goodness evidenced in our actions towards others.
This isn’t goodness which we are coming up with on our own, to “look good” in front of everyone … so that others are impressed.
No.
This is supernatural goodness flowing from the Holy Spirit’s power at work in our life!
Our background photo today shows the end of the tunnel in sight! Darkness will not be forever. Darkness will not win. God, in His great goodness will conquer in the end!
“How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You, which you bestow on those who take refuge in you.” – Psalm 31:19
The goodness of God will win in the end!
The fruit of the Spirit [aka: the evidence of the Holy Spirit working in our life] is goodness.
