Yesterday we considered Psalm 23:6:
“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” -Psalm 23:6
Psalm 23:6 encourages us that:
* God’s goodness leads and guides us as we “travel the path of life” through this dark world.
* God’s goodness surrounds and protects us in the middle of the pitch-black darkness.
* God’s goodness fills our life to shine the light of Jesus here in this darkness.
* God’s goodness will one day take us to heaven to live with Him forever!
Our background photo today shows light and hope at the end of the tunnel!
But, as you can see from the photo, we aren’t quite out of the tunnel yet.
Light of an amazing eternity in Heaven is waiting for us on the other side of this life … but we are not there yet.
We wait.
What do we do while we wait??
If we love and follow Jesus Christ, we have been given the Holy Spirit to indwell and fill us with the very goodness of God.
The fruit of the Spirit [aka: the evidence of the Holy Spirit working in our life] will be goodness displayed in our life!
What does this look like?? … practically speaking?
* It looks like encouraging each other to live in the fullness of Christ! It looks like encouraging each other to love like Jesus! It looks like encouraging each other to have a life of goodness.
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” – Hebrews 10:24
* It looks like a life poured out in service of goodness for others.
“Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” – Hebrews 13:16
* It looks like a life so filled and overflowing with the goodness of God, that people will be drawn to Jesus! And people will praise God!
“Live such good lives among the pagans that … they may see your good deeds and glorify God.” -1 Peter 2:12
The goodness of God [displayed through our life by the power of the Holy Spirit] will lead people to Jesus!
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
The fruit of the Spirit is goodness!
