Perhaps you might have been wondering if hubby gifted me another day-by-day calendar with a paper sculpture hidden inside. He did!
Here you can see my new year’s calendar:
When I opened it for Christmas, without looking I asked hubby to remove the picture so I couldn’t see what the finished paper sculpture inside will be. The whole fun of this calendar is not knowing what the end result will be!
We were opening gifts together as a family, and my kids wanted to see what the paper sculpture would look like. They all “Ooooo’d” over it! And they told me I would really like it!
And so … this is what this new year is like. Once more we stand at the beginning of a new year. God has something beautiful planned for our life in this year. But we can’t see it. It’s hidden “inside” this year which is now set before us.
In looking at my new little day-by-day calendar, there are some dark pages mixed in here and there. And likewise, this year of 2025 will have some dark days and hard times mixed in here and there.
But there is beauty hidden inside also! I’m not even going to try to flip through to peek at what might be in there. I’m just going to take each day as it comes and be surprised by what I discover.
Here you can see my first surprise discovery – when I pulled off the very first page, underneath was bright pink. Last year’s calendar didn’t have any pink pages. So also, this year of 2025 is going to be completely different from last year!
I don’t have a clue what these pages are designed to reveal in the end! I don’t have a clue what the pink might be part of.
So also, those things which happen here at the beginning of this year, somehow someway they are part of the bigger picture of what this next year will become. It might not look like much in these first few days, but every day matters!
Here you can see the next page on my new day-by-day calendar. I didn’t have any bright blue pages on last year’s calendar either! I am filled with so much anticipation for this new year … and this new calendar! I can’t wait to see what it holds!
God has given you a day-by-day for this new year too! And inside your day-by-day there is something beautiful hidden as well. You can’t see it right now … but it’s there.
Mixed in amongst your day-by-days of this next year there will be some darker pages. That’s part of life. The darker pages are part of the bigger picture … they are necessary for the beauty of the whole!
What a joy to pull off each page of our life each day and be surprised by the discovery which is waiting for us in the next day!

Thank you God for the surprises which you have “hidden” for us to discover in this year of 2025, which you have given us as a gift. Life truly is a gift!
Thank you God that even though every day might not be good, there will always be some good in every day because you are there with us in it! And you work all things together to make something beautiful in the end!
