Spy movies … and Mission Control Headquarters

Recently hubby and I were watching an exciting spy movie!

The good guys had put a tracker beacon on the bad guys and were trailing them on foot through the streets of a busy city.   Meanwhile, somewhere in an undisclosed location, Mission Control Headquarters was watching everything on ginormous wall-size tv screens!

Suspense was high!    I held my breath in anticipation of what might happen!

The chase led across rooftops!    Jumping over wide chasms between tall buildings!   Taking hard falls  …  and getting back up again!    And running some more!

But all kinds of unexpected obstacles kept getting in the way!!    The good guys had to climb over high walls!    They had to dodge people in the way!    They had to re-route to find another path!    And then  …  after all that  …  the bad guys got away.    Seriously!?!

Never to fear!  …  Mission Control Headquarters was watching everything on ginormous wall-size tv screens.   They still had “eyes on the situation.”    The bad guys hadn’t gotten away after all.    All was not lost!

As I was watching the exciting spy movie, I couldn’t help but think how similar it is to living the Christian life.     We are like the dudes in the spy movie, trying our best to accomplish the mission God has given us to do in this life.

We’re giving it everything we’ve got  …  we’re running for all we’re worth!    Running across rooftops!    Jumping over wide chasms between tall buildings!    Taking hard falls  …  and getting back up again!    And running some more!

But life is messy.    Life is complicated.    Life doesn’t always go as we expect.

Just like the dudes in the spy movie, our path is cut off by all kinds of unexpected and surprise obstacles!    We have to find a way around the obstacles!    We have to climb over the obstacles!    We have to re-route and find another path.

But for all our effort in trying to accomplish the mission, it seems like the “bad guys” are getting away.

–  Our coworkers at work steal all our hard work, take all the credit for it  …  and they get away with it!

–  Mean people lie about us  …  and they get away with it!

–  Dishonest people take advantage of us  …  and get away with it!

(You know that scene in the spy movie where it feels like all is lost!)

But never to fear!    Mission Control Headquarters (aka: God!) is watching everything!    God sees everything!!

*  Psalm 33:13 – “From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind;  from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth  –  He who forms the hearts of all, considers everything they do.”

*  Proverbs 5:21 – “A man’s ways are in full view of the LORD, and He examines all his paths.”

God has eyes on every person!    God sees the coworker who steals our work.   They aren’t getting away with anything.    But rather, they are storing up judgement for themselves.    God will repay the wicked according to their iniquity!

God sees the mean people who lie about us.    They aren’t getting away with anything.    God is just  …  and His vengeance will have the last word!

God sees the dishonest people who take advantage of us.    They aren’t getting away with anything.    God sees exactly where they are headed  …  and God will cut them down!

So when we are weary and wiped out  …  when we’ve given our very best for the mission, but it feels as if all is lost  …  take courage!    Mission Control has “eyes” on the situation.    There are other “operatives” in play that we don’t even know about.

God has an arsenal of weapons and support assets we aren’t aware of!    God has strategies we can’t even fathom!

God will bring the bad guys down!    And God will win!

Psalm 94:23  –  “He will bring back on them their iniquity and wipe them out for their wickedness;  the LORD our God will wipe them out.

Psalm 64:3-8  –  “Evildoers whet their tongues like swords,  they aim bitter words like arrows, shooting from ambush at the blameless,  shooting at him suddenly and without fear.    They hold fast to their evil purpose;  they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, ‘Who can see them?’  They search out injustice.  …  But God shoots His arrow at them;  they are wounded suddenly.  They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them.”
