I was standing at the kitchen sink doing the dishes when my attention was caught by a sudden flash of light coming from our neighbor’s front window. We cannot see our neighbor’s house from ours … except through a small gap between the garden shed and the Big-leaf maple. In that small gap, the tiniest bit of their front window is visible. And from that tiny bit of the front window, sporadic random flashes of light kept catching my attention.
It was probably just their dining room light reflecting off a phone screen or a computer screen, or something like that.
But it was enough for my imagination to run wild … as I imagined someone in a desperate situation using a flashlight to make “SOS” signals hoping someone outside would see!
At that moment, as my hands were in the soapy dishwater I happened to notice the deer way over in the back garden corner. I did a double-take … it was just the white deer (who acts sort of as a “Mom” for the other girls).
The little doe who always loves to eat my Bunchberry Dogwoods usually hangs out with her. Where is she? I don’t see her at all. I better go check! I don’t trust her at all.
Lo and behold! There she is … her head straining to get a nibble at my mums!! It would be her!
It’s a good thing I noticed! Right as I walked over to look for her she was putting her little hoofs on the deck stairs … headed right on up to eat my mums! And after I’ve babied them all winter trying to keep them alive! Of course it would be her!

She totally knew she was being naughty!
Gotta be more careful about my deck plants! Just because the deer haven’t come right on up and traipsed all over the deck doesn’t mean they can’t.
Thank you God for “SOS” signals!
