In yesterday’s blog post I mentioned that God gives each person their own individual sunrise as his special gift just for them each day, specifically unique to where they each live.
When I came into the kitchen first thing this morning to fix breakfast … I glanced out my kitchen window and was struck with the thought: “Oh wow! It looks like God might give me my own special sunrise gift this morning!” Wouldn’t that be exciting!
I kept a close eye out the window as I got the fire started for the day and warmed up my hot coco for breakfast. When it seemed like the sun was just about to crest the Cascades, I pulled on my coat and headed out the door.
Just off the front porch steps I had to pause and take this photo. Wow! at the snowy sunrise beauty!

(As an aside, that tall toothpick tree in the center of the photo, which is leaning concerningly to the right, that’s the tree which grew up out of a “parent” stump and does not actually have a base/foundation of its own. This is one which we will be having taken out in a few weeks)
I walked out our driveway to the road and started heading down to the end of the road. Oh yay, you can still see the mountains just barely peeking above the valley fog. That should make for some really pretty sunrise photos!

There is a very common phenomenon which occurs here during the wintertime. The sky can be perfectly clear, as in the above photo, but as soon as the sun crests the Cascades … heavy dense fog immediately starts to rise rapidly from the valley! Fast!
In the two minutes that it took me to reach the crest of the hill, the view of the mountains was completely engulfed in fog! And the fog kept rising!

Bummer.
But maybe there still might be a chance to see the sunrise … the sky is still clear up at the top. So I stood in the quiet beauty of the early morning, waiting to see if the sun would win out over the fog.
But no. The fog kept rising.
Bummer.
I guess I’ll head back.

Looking back towards the crest of the hill where the view of the Cascades should be … nothing but fog! This is the exact same spot as the second photo above, which was perfectly clear just 10 minutes earlier.

I made it back to the house, brushed the snow off my shoes, and set my shoes in front of the fireplace to dry out. I headed to the bedroom to get some dry socks. And in passing, I glanced out my bedroom window … No Way!! Check that out! I might get to see the sunrise after all!

I completely forgot all about getting dry socks … and scurried through the house to grab my phone. I slipped on my sandals sitting by the back door and traipsed out into the several inches of snow on the back deck, completely unphased that my feet were getting completely coated in snow!
Whoa!! Is that not phenomenal! My very own snowy sunrise gift from God!! That’s amazing!

Thank you God for such a special snowy sunrise gift just for me! I absolutely love it! What a terrific way to start the day!
Oh wow … I love the way the rising sun highlights the very tip-tops of the trees! So pretty!

So beautiful!!
