The guys were busy doing manly things. So, my son’s girlfriend and I decided to take a walk. The morning had been thundering and dumping rain, but now the sky had cleared, and the sun was coming out.
I had just discovered that my Seek nature app had a new Challenge for November: Find 10 different tree/shrub species. That didn’t seem too difficult of a challenge to try for.
And much to my delight, my son informed me that there was a nature trail somewhere close by. What a perfect place to take a walk … and attempt to complete a nature Challenge. So, my son’s girlfriend and I set off to find this nature trail!
It was a really fun nature walk! The trail wound through mossy woodland and meandered alongside a protected swampy riparian area. It was so peaceful and beautiful.
I was having such a wonderful time chatting, I kept totally forgetting to look for different tree/shrub species. But my son’s girlfriend has a keen eye … and thanks to her, we were able to find:
* White Spruce
* Douglas Fir
* Red Alder
* Beaked Hazelnut
* Red Huckleberry
* Salmonberry
* Oregon grape
* European Holly
* Northern Red Oak
* Japanese Maple
* Portuguese Laurel
* Cherry-plum
* Balsam Poplar
I earned my very first Challenge Badge in just one afternoon! How exciting!!
Thank you God for November joys! Thank you for a nature walk on a beautiful fall afternoon, learning about trees, and making fun memories with a very special someone!
