Lessons from the ER – Love is sacrifice.

Lessons from the ER – Love is sacrifice.

What is love?

Is love a festive heart-shaped pillow?
Is love a sparkly box of delicious chocolates?
Is love a sentimental greeting card?

What does love look like?

Love is taking the only free day that you have off work to go sit with someone in the ER, and hold their hand.

This right here is what love looks like.

Most of the time when someone is in need  …  it’s almost always inconvenient.

The text message comes in:  “Can you please come sit with me in the ER?”

Love is to give up the only free day that you have off work, and go sit and wait endless hours in the ER, just to be there with them.    This right here is what love looks like.

Love is to hold their hand when they are in distress  …  and let them squeeze the feeling out of your hand as an IV is being inserted.    This right here is what love looks like.

Love is sacrifice.

Love is giving up what you had planned to do  … because you care so much about that other person.

Love is sacrificing something that meant a lot to you  …  because you care so much about that other person.

This right here is what love looks like!

“Let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.”  – 1 John 3:18
