Joys of June – strawberries are in season!

One of the things I love about the month of June is that the strawberries are in season.   Usually around Father’s Day weekend is the peak of strawberry season.

In years past we have enjoyed going to U-Pick Strawberry farms and loading up with big cartons of strawberries.  Then coming home and making strawberry freezer jam together as a family.   Fun times!

Here you can see the very first ripe strawberry in our garden this year.

As I look at the little strawberry plant in our garden  …  with its little runner stretching far out to start another strawberry plant  …  the verse comes to mind:  “Go and make disciples.”  – Matthew 28:19

Or in other words:  “Send out runners” and replicate yourselves.

But the strawberry plant isn’t just reaching out to replicate itself.   It is also bearing lots of fruit!

Which brings to mind Jesus’ words:  “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”  – John 15:8

I love strawberry season because it’s a wonderful picture of what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus Christ:  Bear lots of fruit  …  and  …  send out “runners” (so to speak) and replicate yourselves.
