In the darkness of early morning, shortly after hubby left for work, the “dogs” barked on the driveway Ring and the mail truck pulled up. Wow! He’s working early today! The postman left a big box on our front porch.
Well that’s exciting! I wasn’t expecting that!
Later that same afternoon, around 3pm, more deliveries arrived! It seems Santa’s sleigh has been upgraded to a bright yellow Ryder truck! This is exciting!
“Frozen” … I wonder what on earth that could be?? I certainly wasn’t expecting that!
Who on earth could it be from??
As it turned out, the tall white box was a surprise from someone very special in Idaho! And the “Frozen” box contained small little Gelatos – from hubby’s boss at work.
How exciting! I wasn’t expecting that!
Well … I have to say, I certainly wasn’t expecting that – Whiskey Gelato and Rum Gelato.
Speaking of what I wasn’t expecting … I wasn’t expecting our poinsettia to still be mostly green by Christmas. I’d just assumed it would be completely red now. But this … I wasn’t expecting this.
And while I’m at it, who would expect a Christmas tree to be decorated with dried orange slices and dried apple stars?? To be honest I am surprised myself. I never dreamed I’d have an idea such as this and go off on a creative tangent.
We all get an idea in our head how the “movie” of our life should play out. And then … it turns out that the “movie” of our life is nothing at all like what we are expecting.
Such as this year’s Holiday Special: “A Covid for Christmas“
I wasn’t expecting that!
We had originally planned to hang out as a family today – going out to eat at a nice place for Family Christmas Dinner, then watching Christmas movies together all afternoon.
But as it turns out … we will be taking our lawn chairs over to hang out together visiting on a back patio through a screen door. I wasn’t expecting that.
But I’m thankful! I wouldn’t trade it for the world. We can still be together. That is what matters! We still love each other! That is what matters! We are still building memories together! That is what matters!
Life doesn’t always go as we are expecting.
Perhaps you too have had some unexpected surprises show up on your doorstep this Christmas. Perhaps some have been exciting. Perhaps some not so much so.
The good news is that no matter what – God is always good. God is with us in our unexpected – both the good, and the not-so-good. God is with us … and God will help us!
We can always count on that! That is to be expected!
Thank you God that no matter what happens, you are with us!
And you will help us!
