I am currently reading a fascinating book entitled: After the Fall, by Craig DeMartino. The book opens with the gripping account of Craig’s fall from 100 feet up a cliff face, while rock climbing in Rocky Mountain National Park. The chances of survival for someone falling from 100 feet are 0. There is no reason Craig should be alive today … except for the fact that God sovereignly spared his life.
This book is Craig’s story of how God spared his life, his long road of healing and recovery, and what God has done in and through is life since then.
Prior to this read, I was enjoying a book by Isabella L. Bird, entitled: The Hawaiian Archipelago: Six Months Among the Palm Groves, Coral Reefs, and Volcanoes of the Sandwich Islands.
Isabella’s book likewise opens with a gripping account of her life being spared during her voyage across the Pacific Ocean from New Zealand to Oahu. The old, dilapidated steamer on which Isabella was a passenger was hardly seaworthy, and two days out at sea they were caught in the middle of a hurricane.
According to the old, seasoned captain, it was the worst hurricane he had ever been through in all his time at sea. After the hurricane, the steamer was barely holding together, and mechanical parts were breaking each new day.
Yet during the hurricane, the ship held together … the engines did not fail … and the ship was able to keep its heading facing into the wind (so as to avoid capsizing). There is no doubt God sovereignly spared the lives of everyone on board that ship.
Have you ever been in a situation where you know God sovereignly spared your life? Without a doubt you would not be here today if God had not spared your life.
Both hubby and I have experienced such situations.
These situations are very sobering to think about. But there is no doubt, God has given us breath and life for a reason. God has given you breath and life for a reason.
You are here for a reason.
Yesterday’s blog post was about fears which aren’t actually real … but which we perceive to be real. We get ourselves worked up over these perceived fears. We worry. We are overwhelmed by anxiety!
Whether perceived fears, or legitimately threatening situations … God has us! God is holding on to us! God is in control of our life! Nothing will happen to us apart from God’s sovereignty.
God is the one who has given us breath and life.
And if we are still living and breathing … then God has a plan for us!
You are here for a reason!
