Grocery store joys! #3

Grocery store joys! #3

I headed to the grocery store to pick up the items we needed for Thanksgiving dinner:

*  a small bag of potatoes  …  for fluffy Thanksgiving mashed potatoes!
*  a small bag of cranberries  …  for the cranberry salad!

*  a can of crushed pineapple & a box of raspberry jello  …  for the cranberry salad!
*  whipping cream & cream cheese  …  for the cranberry salad!  (it’s a really really good cranberry salad!)

*  a box of stuffing
*  a packet of Turkey Gravy

I paused long and hard at the tortilla section  …  trying to decide exactly which wrap would be best for my “Thankuritto” I was planning to make with all the Thanksgiving leftovers!

I headed down the pickle aisle to get two jars of baby dills  …  when a free-standing display in the center of the aisle caught my attention!    Oooooo!!    Limited Edition Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino drinks!

My daughter would definitely enjoy one of those!  (aka:  I would very much like to try one of those!)

I was going over to her place in two days’ time to help get things prepped for her girls-night spa-party.    I could take us each a Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino to enjoy together!

So, into my cart went two Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino drinks!

I rounded the end of the aisle  …  and there on the endcap was Thai Tea Latte drinks!    Ooooooo!!    My daughter would definitely enjoy one of these too!  (aka:  I would very much like one of these also!)

So, into my cart went two Thai Tea Latte drinks!

I eventually made it home with my grocery purchases.    And I kid you not, I hadn’t even been in the house 5 minutes before I had gobbled down my Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino!    It was absolutely delicious!

Right away I decided I’d better “hide” my daughter’s Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino (and the two Thai Tea Latte’s) in the cold box where I couldn’t see them.    That way they would actually last until I went to hang out with my daughter!

I am so thankful for grocery store joys!    And for the blessing of being able to share exciting, delicious discoveries with my daughter!

The next time you are at the grocery store, think of someone whom you care deeply about.    And pick up an exciting, delicious surprise to share with them!    I guarantee it will make their day!    And they will feel very loved!

Just in case you were curious …

Really Really Good Cranberry Salad!

Cranberry Layer:
1 (3oz) package raspberry jello
1 cup crushed pineapple, drained (reserve liquid)
¾ cup reserved pineapple juice (add water if needed to make ¾ cup)
¾ cup orange juice
1 (12oz) bag fresh cranberries (chopped in food processor)
1 cup sugar
1 apple, peeled & chopped

Whipped Cream Layer:
½ pint whipping cream
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 (8oz) package cream cheese, softened

To prepare:
Bring to a boil the ¾ cup pineapple juice.  Add raspberry jello & stir to dissolve.
Add orange juice.    Cool.

In separate bowl, stir together chopped cranberries and sugar, until sugar is dissolved.
Add crushed pineapple & the chopped apple.
When the jello is just beginning to set, stir jello into the cranberry/pineapple/apple mixture.
Stir thoroughly to combine.
Set aside.

In separate bowl, whip cream until stiff peaks form.
Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and softened cream cheese.
Beat until smooth and creamy.  (if too thick to spread, you can add a bit of milk to reach desired consistency)

In a large clear serving bowl layer ½ cranberry mixture, ½ whipped cream mixture, remaining ½ cranberry mixture, and top with remaining ½ whipped cream mixture.

Enjoy!   (and be delighted when everyone asks you for your recipe!)
