Gratitude … for discovering a wide-open gaping hole!

Gratitude … for discovering a wide-open gaping hole!

Our roof-replacement project is basically done.   There is only one part which still remains  …  to re-surface the flat “deck” portion on the very top of the house.

Hubby and I have no idea when the roofers will be coming to finish the project.   It seems they only show up to work on days when it’s rainy and icky.   (I’m assuming they must be ripping a roof off of someone else’s house on the nice days).

This entire upcoming week is supposed to be rainy and icky!   Perfect weather for the roofers to show up!!  (haha!)   I have high hopes they might come and finish!

Since so much roof work has gone on, hubby and I decided yesterday that we’d better go up top to check things out.   Especially since we have no idea when they will be coming back to re-surface the top.

We pulled down the ladder, and opened up the hatch to access the top deck.

Lo and behold!  …  the roofers had left the door panel completely off the top attic portion!!

If I had known the panel to the top attic was completely wide-open these past three weeks I would totally have been freaking out!!!    (insert “freaking-out ghost”)

That upper attic would make a perfect winter shelter for bats!  …  and birds!  …  and mice!  …  and squirrels!

Hubby and I got the panel back on, and the upper attic sealed up!

We checked on the “bat lights”  …  one of the bulbs had gone out.    We got the bulb replaced and the “bat lights” back on!

We bagged up leaf-debris skookum!   We broomed standing water down the drain!   And we even removed an old satellite dish!   Here you can see what the upper deck area looks like.

Hubby and I were so glad we had gone up to check things out!!

Gratitude  …  for discovering the wide-open gaping hole!

It seems the Holiday Season has been ushered in, with neighborhoods all around us putting up their Christmas lights!    The day after Halloween, my daughter’s neighbors had their wreath on their front door and a festive Christmassy doormat out.

So  …  to join in with the Holiday festivities  …  I thought I would share my latest rendition of the well-loved Christmas song:  “Up On the Housetop.”

Up On the Housetop”

Up on the housetop, hubby and I crawled.
Oh no!  An opening is what we saw!

Bats could get in there!   It’s going to rain!
We bagged up the skookum!   Broomed the water down the drain!

Oh-oh-no!   This roof job’s going slow.
Oh-oh-no!  When will the porta-potty go???

Up on the housetop – creak, creak, creak!
We sealed up the gap so that it won’t leak!

(haha!!)
