It is interesting to note that in today’s Daily Verse, the weapons of spiritual warfare are mentioned in direct relation to LIGHT.
Faith and Love are specifically mentioned as being spiritual protective “armor” for our heart. Also, the Hope we have because of Salvation is spiritual protective “armor” for our mind.
* “You are children of the light and of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. Since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.” -1 Thessalonians 5:5,8
Ephesians 6:10-18 explains in detail the need for and the specifics of the Armor of God.
“Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” -Ephesians 6:10-13
- Gear for a soldier in war includes a survival belt. Likewise, as a spiritual warrior, our “survival belt” is Truth! What is Truth? Truth is found in God’s Word!
- Gear for a soldier in war includes a bullet-proof vest to protect the heart. Likewise, as a spiritual warrior, our “bullet-proof vest” which protects our heart is Righteousness. How can we be righteous? The answer: Jesus Christ!
- Gear for a soldier in war includes boots … a soldier at war sleeps with his boots on! Likewise, as a spiritual warrior, we must always be on-the-ready and prepared with the Gospel of Peace. What is the Gospel of Peace? It is the message about Jesus Christ … how Jesus died for our sins so that we can have forgiveness and a restored relationship with God.
- Gear for a soldier in war includes anti-artillery defense against incoming enemy missiles. Likewise, as a spiritual warrior, our anti-artillery defense against Satan’s incoming enemy missiles is Faith.
- Gear for a soldier in war includes a protective helmet. Likewise, as a spiritual warrior, the protective helmet which protects our minds is Salvation.
- Gear for a soldier in war includes offensive weaponry – munitions. Likewise, as a spiritual warrior, our offensive weaponry is the Word of God! And as we just saw previously, the Word of God is LIGHT!
God’s Word is our LIGHT … which is our offensive weaponry against the darkness of Satan and his schemes.
