I was just now flipping through my journal, and I came across the quote: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
It’s raining today. Yesterday I wrote about the “Yay!” of sunshine.
But as I sit here today, with the entire outside world cold and foggy and drippy, and rain pattering on my roof, I’m pondering the above quote about “dancing in the rain.”
Practically, that quote makes no sense – especially when it rains all the time! So, there you are, dancing in the rain. But eventually you get tired. You can’t dance forever in the rain. You are now wet and cold and chilled!
What you need is a warm shelter; preferably with a nice blazing fire going in the fireplace. That is what you need. Yes … to stand and warm up in front of the fireplace!
And you need to get out of those wet clothes! You need some dry comfy clothes to change into.
And you need a steaming cup of hot coffee/tea to hold in your chilled hands. That is what you need.
You need some lights to be on (because of course it’s dark & grey & dreary outside).
And a cozy flickering candle nearby wouldn’t hurt anything either.
It’s the winter season. That is the season we are in. The rain isn’t going to go away. And as delightful as it is to think of simply “dancing in the rain” … we can’t just “dance in the rain” forever.
So too, when it comes to life’s wintry, rainy seasons, we can’t just “dance in the rain” forever. We eventually will get weary … and worn out. We’ll get chilled to the bone. We’ll eventually need a fire to warm up next to. We’ll eventually need dry clothes. We’ll eventually need a steaming cup of hot coffee/tea to warm us up on the inside.
Life is about “dancing in the rain” … and coming into a warm safe space afterwards to rest, recover, and mend … so that we can “go back out there” and do it all over again tomorrow!
Life is about “dancing in the rain” (no matter how long life’s wintry, rainy season) day after day … after day … after day … after day …
The “joy of dancing” in the storm is important!
So too is perseverance and tenacity!
But perhaps more so is the warm, safe, dry, cozy space to recover afterwards!
