Christmas joys … a Christmas parade!

Christmas joys … a Christmas parade!

Hubby and I happened across a Christmas parade this past Saturday quite by accident!

We had gotten up bright and early to go into downtown Dallas to visit the JFK memorial & museum at Dealey Plaza. Lo and behold, the annual Dallas Christmas parade “just so happened” to be occurring at the same time and place! How fortuitous!

The start of the parade was just a couple of blocks away from Dealey Plaza. And the music of the marching bands drew hubby and me with magnetic force! It doesn’t matter how old you get, parades are really cool!

From where we were standing, the parade was cued-up down one street with all the many different marching bands, horses, firetrucks, hot-rod cars, etc. And then cued-up down the adjoining street were all the big balloons and floats. At the juncture of these two streets was the start of the parade. It was terrific fun to watch the parade coordinators telling each entry that it was their turn, and then seeing them head off down the parade route!

Because this spot was the cueing-up area, it wound up being a great place to take photos, as the crowds weren’t as packed here.

It has been years since I have been to a Christmas parade! How long has it been since you have been to a Christmas parade?

Come along and join hubby and me at a Christmas parade! And as you scroll through the photos, imagine in your head the peppy festive music of the marching bands drumming & stepping in time as they play favorite Christmas tunes! Imagine in your head all the little kids jumping in excitement all around you! Imagine in your head the vendors passing by with cotton candy on tall poles! Parades are such great fun!

I especially loved the big balloons! I have never been to a parade with big balloons before.

The very best part of a parade is the marching bands! This parade had lots of really great marching bands!

More floats!

It’s Corduroy the Bear! I have always loved this children’s book!

It’s Elf! … on a float! Exciting!

Our time approached for our entrance into the JFK museum, so we had to mosey on. But what an amazing “surprise” Christmas blessing!

When hubby and I came out of the museum an hour or so later, the parade had finished … and it was starting to rain. It rained the entire rest of the day! Texas rain isn’t like Seattle rain. Texas rain actually gets you wet! I was so thankful for the amazing “surprise blessing” of a Christmas parade … and that it didn’t even rain!

Thank you God for Christmas joys!
