Have you ever gone Christmas shopping for someone else … only to come home with Christmas gifts for yourself?!?
Yes, I am at the top of the list when it comes to finding Christmas gifts for myself … when I’m supposed to be finding “that perfect gift” for someone else.
For example! This year’s Christmas gift for myself! Isn’t it great!
Yes, I am unashamedly a Mandalorian/Baby Yoda fan. So adorable!
One of my biggest weaknesses is cards which are little pieces of artwork. Such as this fabulous Christmas card! Which was also a Christmas gift for myself this year … when I was supposed to be shopping for everyone else’s Christmas gifts. Ha!
What I love so much about this card is that it is not stereotypical of what Christmas is supposed to look like. People all over the world celebrate Christmas … and it looks different in different places! I love that! Christmas doesn’t have to look just like we envision it here, where we are.
Among my favorite Christmas cards over the years, is this fabulous watercolor-print of my beautiful city of Seattle! The artist, Sarah Clementson, has a shop in Pike Place Market and we always get her watercolor-print wall calendar every year! I love her artwork!
We purchased this boxed set of Christmas cards to send to family and friends several years ago … but to be honest, it was really just a “Christmas gift for myself.” Haha!
And here is another one of my all-time favorite Christmas cards! (likewise a “Christmas gift for myself”) And also by watercolor artist, Sarah Clementson.
What I love so much about this card is that it is so totally Pacific Northwest! Santa and his reindeer are crossing the Puget Sound on the ferry! Can you see Santa standing up on the upper deck of the ferry, while all his reindeer have their heads sticking out the lower side windows. And Santa’s sleigh is right up front in the vehicle holding area. Too funny! Love it!
One of my favorite Christmas cards of all time is this one which was sent to us from friends in Bangladesh, back during Christmas of 2013. My family and I had just traveled to Bangladesh that summer, and we had experienced the delight of little tiktiki geckos (about 3-4 inches long) … scurrying across the walls of any and every room, particularly in the evenings, with their little clicking sounds serenading us in our sleep each night.
On this beautiful card you can see a little tiktiki in a stocking. Too cute! I love the artistic creativity and talent of this drawing!
When it comes to little tiktiki’s, I can’t help but think of Proverbs 30:24, 28 – “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: … a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.” Yes, that would be tiktiki’s.
I wonder if, on the night when King Jesus was born, (since it was in the Middle Eastern region) if there were little tiktiki’s scurrying across the beams of the building, and clicking their praises to the newborn King!
Speaking of Bangladesh, the bride from the wedding this past weekend spent the past 20 years of her life in Bangladesh, working in a hospital to care for the people there. In honor of the happy couple and their brand-new marriage, I just had to share this Christmas card as a grand finale!
Isn’t it great! This card was also a “Christmas gift for myself” (several years ago) when I was supposed to be Christmas shopping for everyone else!
What about you? What “Christmas gifts” have you wound up picking up for yourself this year … when you’re supposed to be shopping for everyone else??
