Hubby and I were at the garden center picking up some potting soil for our new planter box on the back deck. We made sure to get some really good potting soil with steer manure … our plants will like that!

We toted our fancy potting soil home and poured it into the planter box on the back deck.
I was working with gloved hands, spreading out the steer-manure-potting-soil across the 4 different sections of my nice new planter box. The pungent aroma wafted over hubby and me, letting us know that we had indeed gotten some really good “nutrient rich” soil!
Oh … can’t forget to plant the tomato seeds while we’re at it.
We had picked up some peat starter cups for the tomato seeds. I grabbed the trays of starter cups and proceeded to load them up with the really good potting soil. Our tomatoes will like this dirt too!
Then the thought suddenly occurred to me: The trays of tomato starts are going inside the house! They need to be kept inside where it’s warm in order to sprout. I can’t bring steer-manure-potting-soil into my house!!
Perish the thought!
I immediately dumped out all the steer-manure-potting-soil! Yikes! That would have been terrible!
Thankfully we had a leftover bag of seed-starter-mix from last year. Hubby went to the garden shed and retrieved it.
We filled our peat starter trays with the seed-starter dirt … planted our tomato seeds … and brought the trays inside where we placed them next to the big sunny windows along the back.
Just as the tomato packets predicted, up popped our tomato sprouts in 7 days exactly! Whoo Hoo!

The lesson I learned from starting my tomato seeds this year is this: Be careful what you bring inside! Not just steer-manure-potting-soil (with its wafting pungent scent!) … but be careful what you bring inside your mind!
There is a lot out there that is frankly not much more than mental steer manure. Don’t want that in our mind! That will just stink up our soul … and create a foul-smelling atmosphere in our attitude.
What do you allow in your mind??
And it’s not just the steer-manure-potting-soil. Hubby and I planted tomato seeds in our starter cups. When it comes to everything that’s out there trying to get into our mind, there are a lot of seeds trying to get into our mind too!
Seeds of discontent!
Seeds of disgust!
Seeds of hatred!
Seeds of slander!
Seeds of bitterness!
Seeds of complaining!
Seeds of fear!
Seeds of worry!
It’s no wonder people are not mentally well nowadays. Without really realizing it they have brought into their mind starter trays filled with mental steer-manure … containing all kinds of mental seeds which have sprouted up into an unhealthy mess in their minds.
And these seeds are not nice and tame like tomato seeds. These seeds are wild! They spread! They spread discontent and disgust to other people. They spread bitterness! They spread hatred and slander all over the place!
Be careful what you bring inside!
Be careful what you bring inside your mind!
