Do you ever feel like your “flame” is just barely a flicker?
This time of year, it’s nice to light a candle … because the mornings are dark and cold … and the days are rainy and grey.
A candle is cozy and warm.
Also, a candle is a beautiful object lesson for me as I pray over the special people in my life – praying that they will “shine” beautifully for Jesus!
Last weekend when I lit my candle, the tiny flame was barely a flicker.
It didn’t go completely out … but it was barely there.
That’s the way we feel sometimes. Sometimes life is so hard that our “flame” is barely a flicker.
As I watched the tiny little flicker, it occurred to me that what the little flicker needed was a small breeze. If it could get some air, it would catch into a beautiful flame.
Sure enough, a breeze wafted by … and the little flame came to life.
In that instant the words to a worship song popped into my mind: “This is the moment when wind meets fire … “ (Acts 2:2-3)
The Holy Spirit is the “wind” which blows through our life … breathing to life the “flame” in our soul.
Thank you Holy Spirit for “breathing” life into the flame of our soul when we are barely hanging in there! We are so grateful for your presence and your comfort! We are so grateful for your peace! We are so grateful for your strength!
“You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” – Psalm 18:28
