A prowling cougar

A prowling cougar

The cougar came by on Sunday.    I have never seen the cougar in person, but the Ring camera picked it up … as you can see in the background photo.

My immediate thought was:  Satan is a prowling cougar, seeking someone to devour!

“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a [cougar] looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”  – 1 Peter 5:8-9

I’ve found myself praying this week:  “Oh God, protect me from Satan!”

For some reason it feels very real this week.   It feels so real … Satan prowling around like a cougar trying to take me out.

The cougar has only been caught twice on the Ring camera.    That does not mean the cougar has not been actively present on our property.    The bear likewise has only been caught a couple of times on the Ring camera … and yet the bear is very active on our forest property.    Every time I go out to work in the forest, I come across fresh bear scat.

The bear is prowling around … even though I don’t see it.

The cougar is also prowling around … even though I don’t see it.

And in the same way … Satan is prowling around … even though we can’t see him.

The cougar is most active in the dark – particularly the dusky dark of evening or the dark of the very early morning.

In the same way Satan, a prowling cougar seeking to take us out, is most active in the dark.

Stay away from the dark.    Don’t let your mind go to dark places.    Don’t dwell on negative dark thoughts.    Don’t tolerate dark thoughts … especially dark negative thoughts about other people.    Don’t let your mind linger and ponder over dark hurts and pain.

Stay away from the dark!
Guard your mind!    Resist Satan!

Stand firm in faith!    Call out to Jesus for help!    Call out to the Holy Spirit for help!

Jesus is greater than Satan.    Jesus has defeated Satan!    Claim the blood of Jesus!

“He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”  – 1 John 4:4

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.  Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk from your lips.”  – Proverbs 4:23-24

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  …  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up, that it may benefit those who listen.”  – Ephesians 4:31-32, 29
