Hubby and I were headed to church bright and early Sunday morning when a text came in from our son: “You want to get coffee after church?”
Absolutely!
Hubby and I had never been to Woods Coffee before, so when we got there just a bit before our son arrived, we took some time to familiarize ourselves with the menu board.
Neither hubby nor I are coffee drinkers. Whenever we “go out to coffee” we usually just get a Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino. There’s so much sugar and caramel and whipped cream that it’s not at all like having a coffee. It’s more like dessert in a cup! But Woods Coffee had different menu options. Under their “Blended Drinks” category there was listed the “Avalanche” and the “Mudslide.”
Ooooo! … the “Mudslide” looks tasty! Lots of chocolatey goodness!
Hubby asked the barista what was in the “Avalanche” … and as the barista explained the amazing tastiness of this drink, he mentioned in passing that it had 2 shots of espresso.
I thought, “Oh I can’t have 2 shots of espresso! That’s way too much caffeine considering how bad I feel.”
As the barista asked me what I would like, I decided last minute to order a mocha instead … in honor of my friend who had just recently stayed with us following her spine surgery (mochas were her absolute favorite!). I had never had a mocha before. I couldn’t wait to see what it was like!
The barista rang up our order and handed me the receipt. I noticed printed on the receipt that my mocha had 2 shots of espresso as well! Haha! I thought that was hilarious!
My daughter told me later: “Mom, they all have shots of espresso in them. That’s how they make them.”
Oh. I had no idea. I thought this whole time they just used regular coffee in them. Ha!
That mocha! Wow … now that was some tasty goodness in a cup! Even though I had been feeling wretched to start with, by the time our son showed up I was doing just dandy! It was those 2 shots of espresso! (haha!) I told hubby we’ve got to be careful about this new coffee place! This could become a real temptation every Sunday after church from now on.
Hubby and I had the best time hanging out with our son and chatting for an hour or so! The month of March had been so busy with caring for my friend after her surgery that it felt as if it had been forever since I had spent time with my son. It was so good to catch up on life! It truly does wonders for the heart to spend time together with the ones you love most!
Thank you God for Sunday joys!
Thank you God for coffee with my son!
And thank you God for espresso! … and mochas!
