When hubby and I arrived at the parking lot for Cape Blanco Lighthouse, everything was socked in with dense thick heavy fog! From the parking lot, it was tempting to just hop over the guardrail fence and proceed straight in the direction of the lighthouse. But not being able to see but only a few feet in front of us in the thick soupy fogginess, wisdom dictated we take the extra steps out of the way to follow the path.
It’s a good thing we followed the path, because just a few feet on the other side of the parking lot guardrail the land fell away steeply in a sheer drop down to the rocks below! We couldn’t see it. Not in the fog.
As we proceeded out the footpath toward the lighthouse, we didn’t actually see the lighthouse until we were right upon it. Only then did it emerge from the white soupy fogginess.
There’s no way the light can piercing through that heavy fog to warn any ships out at sea.
Hence the foghorn!
Cape Blanco Light has no idea if the foghorn is helping anyone or not.
Lighthouses never know how many ships have been spared because of the light they shine … or the foghorn they sound out into the soupy foggy nothingness. In much the same way, we oftentimes have no idea the significant impact our love is making.
In my own life, I have drawn great courage from knowing someone was rock-solid there for me. And they have had no idea how much their presence in my life was giving me strength to face each new day.
I have been forever shaped by watching the example of special people in my life who have shown kindness and love to me. And they have had no idea just how great their impact on my life was!
During the lowest times of my life, when I have been in desperate need of encouragement, invariably a loving someone will “just so happen” to reach out with the encouragement I desperately need! And they had no idea I was needing some encouragement that badly.
If you have ever wondered: “Does any of this matter?? Does any of this effort even matter at all??” – know that your love is making a huge difference in the lives of those around you! Even if you can’t see it. Even if there’s no outward indication.
The impact your love is having on others is huge! Absolutely huge!
