How the mighty fall!

How the mighty fall!

The tree crew showed up this morning! The trees we need them to take out are so dead and compromised it’s not safe to climb them. They decided instead to fell the tree in its entirety. There are 4 of these trees.

It is not necessarily a fast business to fell a tree in its entirety. The tree had been leaning sideways to start with … so it was a tricky business getting the already sideways-leaning tree to fall through the only available narrow gap. The tree dude took a lot of time to study the tree, then to make just the such-and-such cuts … then to study the tree more (he was being very deliberate and very precise!) … before making the final felling cut.

Timber!!

That is a phenomenal fell job … through a very narrow gap!

And it’s down!

The tree in the photos which came down was forked at the top. It brings to mind the verse in James about a double-minded person being unstable in all their ways. Double-minded people have forked tongues. They say one thing, but their life is a lie which contradicts their words, as by their actions they live something completely different!

“There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue … ” – Proverbs 6:16-17

As I watched the mighty tree fall, I couldn’t help thinking this is what God does to the proud person. God hates pride … and as such, God brings the haughty down!

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”  – Proverbs 16:18

“Whoever exalts themself will be humbled.”  – Matthew 23:12

“A person’s pride brings them low.”  – Proverbs 29:23

“The LORD tears down the proud person’s house.”  – Proverbs 15:25

But it is not a fast business. Just like the tree dude studied the tree, then made just the such-and-such cuts … then studied the tree some more – so also, God does the same.

God gives the proud, haughty person time to repent of their sin. God makes just the “such-and-such cuts” to warn the proud, haughty person to repent and turn from their sin.

Then ultimately … God makes the final felling cut.
God brings the proud down!

“Do not be deceived. God will not be mocked. Whatever a person sows, that will they also reap. The one who sows to please their sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction.” – Galatians 6:7-8
