Have you ever found yourself uttering the phrase: “I wonder where I put … ??”
I say this all the time!
Or: “I wonder what I did with … ??”
For example, last Christmas my son 3-D printed a lovely little star to go on top of our Lodgepole Pine saplings. As you can see here:
After Christmas, that little 3-D printed star wound up lying on the counter in the pantry for this entire past year. Finally, in September I decided I’d better tidy things up a bit, and I put the little star “someplace safe” so that I could have easy access to it for this year’s decorating.
Would you believe I can’t find it!
I have no idea what I did with it!
I know exactly where it used to be (all year long) … but now I’m left to wonder!
Star of wonder! I wonder where that star is?? I wonder what I did with it??
(Needless to say, our outside little saplings have no star topper this year. I’ll probably discover the star as soon as Christmas is over!)
Recently, after seeing a delightful post on Substack of a lady who dried orange slices and apple stars for Thanksgiving, I decided it would be great fun to decorate our Christmas tree this year with dried orange slices and apple stars!
Did you know there is a “star” in the center of an apple?
Voila! Star of wonder!
I did not know this until I was reading a children’s book to my kids, when they were little, which was all about the star in the middle of the apple! Cool!
Here is a Star of wonder without seeds.
And then there are the leftover ends of the apple slices – where the star is still somewhat visible, yet not as prominent. Perhaps I should use my star cookie cutter to cut those apple slices into star-shapes? Perhaps I should use my tiny star cookie cutter to cut the “star” out of the center of the slices?
I wonder??
By the way … where are my star cookie cutters anyway??
I know exactly where they used to be. They used to be right here!
I wonder what I did with them??
Oh that’s right … I moved them out to a storage tub in the workshop!
So out I go, trotting to the workshop to find my star cookie cutters. I was just beginning to dig through the storage tubs when: “Lo and behold! Here’s the star topper for the tree!! I had no idea this was out here in the workshop!”
Star of wonder!
I found my star cookie cutters and triumphantly carried them back inside! Now to cut out stars from my apple slices! Stars of wonder!
.
An oft-quoted phrase during the Christmas season is “Star of Wonder!”
When the wise men from the east saw the Star of Wonder in the sky, what might they have wondered??
Did they wonder what the Star of Wonder meant?
No. Because when they showed up in Jerusalem they asked: “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:2
* They were obviously well aware that the Star of Wonder signified an important birth!
* They were obviously well aware that the Star of Wonder signified the birth of a King!
Did they wonder where the Star of Wonder was leading them?
No. Because, as seen in their question above, they were obviously well aware that this significant King was for the Jewish people. They knew exactly where the Star of Wonder was leading them – to the land of Israel.
Did they wonder what this King was going to be like?
Perhaps. After all, one of their gifts for this newly born King was burial embalming spice (the equivalent of bringing a coffin as a gift to a baby shower).
Which, in turn, makes me wonder: “Were the embalming spices which were used to prepare Jesus’s body for burial after his death on the cross … had Mary saved these very embalming spices?? Did King Jesus wind up being wrapped up in these very spices?? … which were a gift from his birth?”
So much to wonder!
How did these wise men, from a foreign land far to the east, know that this newly born King was destined for death??
How did these wise men know that this newly born King was also to be a Priest?? – as evidenced by their gift of incense. (an item specifically designated for Priestly service)
So much to wonder!
These wise men had followed the Star of Wonder specifically so that they could come and worship this King. It seems they were fully aware that this child was God Himself, come to be with us??
How did they know God Himself had come??
If these wise men were such devoted followers and worshipers of Jesus, then we will probably see these very wise men in Heaven?? That’s an exciting thought! I can’t wait to meet them! … and ask them all my questions of wonder!
Such as … how did they know??
And … exactly how many wise men were there who came to worship Jesus??
So much to wonder!!
