I was sitting at my dining room table typing up a blog post when intense brilliance out the window caught my attention. I glanced up … and this is what I saw.
Whoa! That’s amazing!
The day thus far had been socked in with dense heavy fog. Outside my windows had been grey dense fogginess all morning.
The deep ravine behind our house acts as a sort-of funnel which the fog wafts up from the valley. It is not uncommon at all, especially during December, for the fog drifting across our backyard to be pierced through with the most beautiful sunrays I have ever seen! This only really happens during November and December.
During the entire rest of the day the fog continued to waft up from the valley … sometimes socking everything in with dense grey fogginess … and at other times being pierced through with intense brilliant sunrays!
The view out the windows kept changing all day long as the sun moved across the sky … with the brilliant stunning sunrays continually shifting and changing across the backyard as the sun moved westward, and as the fog continually shifted, wafted on the breezes, thickened, then thinned again. It was an amazing thing to watch!
What I found particularly fascinating is that if I stood further back in the house, the perspective was that the entire world outside was brilliant white sunrays! Whereas, if I moved up next to the windows the perspective changed … and no longer did everything look brilliant white, but rather the blue of the sky and the green of the grass captured my attention more, creating an entirely different view of the sunrays.
I love this – that depending on where you are as you look out the windows … the brilliance looks different.
This makes me think of God. God is stunning brilliance! Jesus Christ is described in Revelation 1:16-18 as: ” … His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”
As I gaze at this amazing view out my windows, I can’t help but think of Jesus! And just like the perspective of the brilliant whiteness changes depending on where I am standing in the house … so also, each person’s perspective of the brilliance of Jesus is slightly different depending on where they are “standing” in their personal life.
In life, dense heavy fog drifts across our life. Life is hard. Everything is cold. And our view across the “landscape of life” is shrouded by the heavy fog!
But then Jesus shines through the fog of life! The glory and brilliance of Jesus shows up on a normal ordinary day … as we are doing our normal ordinary things which He has called us to do. And our attention is caught. We glance up from what we are doing … and whoa! The glory of God is there!
Some of us might be like I was sitting at my dining room table … and all I saw was intense brilliant whiteness shining though the rays!
Others of us might be like the perspective over next to the windows … with the bright blue sky and vivid green grass creating a completely different view of the sunrays!
Jesus is here! Jesus is here with us on our normal ordinary days!
Most often it’s not obvious … just like the sun is not obvious on the grey rainy days. But then at other times, the glory of Jesus pierces through the fog of life and we can’t help but be totally captivated!
Thank you Jesus that you are here … right here with us! After all, one of your names is “Immanuel” – which means “God with us!”
Thank you Jesus for little everyday miracles! Which catch us unaware, and leave us in awe and wonder of your glory!
