It is absolutely dumping rain today! The winter rainy season has arrived! Not a time to be having your roof re-done.
I feel so sorry for the roofers out there having to work in the cold rainy downpour!
They are trying their hardest to get this job finished … but it keeps dumping rain!!
Working way up high on a sloped, slippery surface is dangerous! Thankfully, the roofers are roped in and attached to anchor bolts up top!
Hebrews 6:19 states: “We have this hope [the hope of salvation in Jesus Christ] as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Our hope in Jesus Christ is our anchor in the “downpour” of life!
Life itself dumps a cold rainy “downpour” on us! Some days it feels as if we are just like those roofers, trying to accomplish what God has called us to do … and it’s just so hard! It’s just “dumping” and “downpouring” all over our lives!
For starters … the roofers are “covered.” They are up there working today, and they are covered in durable, protective raingear. Even in the downpour, they are staying dry.
So also, as we “climb up the ladder” each day to accomplish the work God has called us to do, we too are “covered.” We are “covered” with Jesus Christ! Even in the cold “downpour” of life, we are kept safe and dry in Christ.
It is scary going up that really tall ladder!! I have to admit, I don’t think I could do it. I have the utmost respect for the roofers … climbing up and down as if it’s no big deal. And not only that, carrying weighty metal roofing panels up with them.
In life, God calls us to accomplish a work which he has designed for us to do. And sometimes this means “climbing up really tall ladders” which are frightening and uncomfortable for us to do.
Sometimes this means carrying weighty things with us as we “climb up” to accomplish what God has called us to do.
“We are … created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
If you notice in this photo … the really tall ladder is “anchored” in place by a bungee cord … with extra boards nailed on at the roofline to “close the gap” so there is no “wiggle room” for the ladder to move.
As we go out in life each day to accomplish the task God has called us to do, God does not leave us on a wobbly ladder. He gives us sure, firm footing. He “anchors” our “ladder” in place.
“He will not let your foot slip.” – Psalm 121:3
“My steps have held to your paths God, my feet have not slipped.” – Psalm 17:5
The roofers are wearing harnesses, attached to long thick ropes, which are anchored into bolts up top, as they work.
In the same way, if we love and follow Jesus Christ, we wear the “harness” of Jesus Christ, and we are “anchored” steadfastly to Heaven as we work each day to “build God’s Kingdom.”
Just like the roofers … so also, we are “builders.” We are “building” the Kingdom of God.
The roofers have massive tool belts … and as they work, they reach around back and pull out whatever tool they need.
So also, as “builders” for God’s Kingdom, we likewise have a massive “tool belt” … and as we work each day wherever God has called us to, we reach around and pull out whatever “tool” we need for the task we are facing.
Sometimes the “tool” might be kindness … to deal with hate.
Sometimes the “tool” might be forgiveness … to loosen and remove bitterness.
Sometimes the “tool” might be patience … or perhaps self-control.
And through it all, as we are working for God’s Kingdom, “building” what God has called us to “build” … we are “anchored in.”
As the rain is dumping! … and downpouring! … we are “anchored in.” We can walk with sure footing and accomplish the task we have been called and gifted to do.
“If the LORD delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.” – Psalm 37:23-24
