I came into the kitchen this morning to make a nice cup of tea.
But alas, my Marketspice Cinnamon Orange tea is all but gone … only a small smattering of tea remained in the bottom of the jar.
To have a good cup of tea, you need a full teaspoon of loose tea leaves.
I pondered raiding my tea cupboard and making up the lacking difference with some other kind of tea. Hmmmm … Lime tea, Lavender/Mint tea, Rooibos Chocolate Chai, etc. …
Nah … adding any of those sounds like the results would be rather nasty.
It made me think how many people try to get to Heaven just this way. A little bit of this … and a little bit of that … sortof like raiding the “religious” tea cupboard (so to speak). A little bit of this religion … and a little bit of that religion.
Back before the days of modern medicine, for thousands of years, medicinal herbs were steeped and brewed into teas as medicine for the sick. For most of history, teas were medicinal … not something warm and cozy to sip alongside a scone for breakfast in the morning.
If a person were desperately sick … and if the doctor of the time brewed a medicinal herbal tea which would heal their sickness and help them to recover … … how unwise would it be for the sick person to decide that they would rather not take the medicinal tea which would heal their sickness … but they would rather concoct a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
All of humanity is desperately sick … our souls are sick with sin!
There is only one cure for our sick souls … only one cure which will take away sin – Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the one and only remedy for the sickness and death of sin. We cannot take a little bit of this religion and a little bit of that religion.
Jesus and Jesus Christ alone is the only way to Heaven. Jesus is the only way for our souls to be healed of the sickness of sin, and to be restored to life and vitality again.
We want to live forever … in a beautiful paradise … free from suffering and pain … filled with joy and happiness … all kinds of wonderful delights we can’t even imagine! … everyone at peace with each other! … beauty surrounding us that we can’t fathom …
Jesus! Jesus is the one and only way!
We can’t have a little bit of this … and a little bit of that.
Jesus is the only way!
