Principles for an Effective Life

Principles for an Effective Life

Twenty-five years ago, when I was a young mom with two little children, I came across a small, thin book about “The Effective Teacher Principles.”   This book had a profound impact on my life!

At the time, I jotted down a few highlight notes from the book into my journal.  But unfortunately, I did not write down the author.  I have tried many times over the years to find this book, but sadly, without any success.

Often, I refer back to these notes, as they are such a great reminder for how to have an effective life.

At the beginning of this new year of 2023, it seemed fitting to share a few of these principles with you too.

From:  The Effective Teacher Principles

*  The effective teacher always teaches from the overflow of a full life.

*  You cannot impart what you do not possess.

*  Have you changed  –  in the last week?    In the last month?    In the last year?
The more you change, the more you become an instrument of change in the lives of others.

If the “arrows” of your life (your questions, your interests, your mental energies) are directed towards you, focused on yourself … you are in the process of dying.

If the “arrows” of your life (your questions, your interests, your mental energies) are expanding outwards from you … then you are developing.   This has nothing to do with your age, and everything to do with your attitude.

Learn … or else you will slowly die mentally.

Philippians 3:13-14 – forgetting what is behind
*  We must be properly related to the past – learn from the past, but don’t live in it.
*  We must be properly related to the future – here is the goal, the hope.
*  We must be properly related to the present – here and now I press on, grabbing the challenge!
