What 3 songs bring you joy?

What 3 songs bring you joy?

A few years back, hubby & I had just moved into our home in the forest.  Our son was living in the Midwest at the time, and he was going to be flying home two days before Christmas. So, we decided to wait to put up the Christmas tree until he arrived.

The month of December marched by, until finally the long-anticipated day arrived!  Our son landed at SeaTac … and we all piled in the car to go get a Christmas tree together.

Since it was the day before Christmas Eve, we foolishly assumed that the few remaining Christmas trees at the Christmas-tree stands would be somewhat discounted.  This was far from true!

Our first stop was QFC … our local grocery store just up the street.  We pulled into the parking lot, and much to our surprise only 3 forlorn trees remained.  Without missing a beat, our daughter launched into song:  “We three trees outside QFC … each one begging: ‘Oh please pick me!!’”

It was absolutely hilarious!!  (this song is “We Three Kings” … in case you might not have been quite sure)

What was not hilarious was the price.   No end-of-season discounts here.  These 3 forlorn trees were $85 each.  No way we’re paying that much!  So we proceeded to drive around to several more Christmas tree stands and farms … each with the same exorbitant prices.

In a moment of brilliance we realized:  Hey, we live in the forest.  Let’s just cut our own Christmas tree.

So back home we drove to find our own perfect tree in our own forest.

After much tramping in the rain through the forest (which we had not even yet explored up to that point), we finally found a small cedar sapling which would work just fine for our Christmas tree.  We were proud of ourselves!

With much ado, hubby sawed down the cedar sapling, and we carried it over to the workshop … where hubby and my son made a stand for it.

We were all totally delighted with our free Christmas tree!

If you have ever wondered why cedar trees are not typically used as Christmas trees … well, here’s your answer.  Our epic cedar Christmas tree could hardly support a strand of Christmas lights … let alone the star topper …

Join with me in singing:  “Ooooohhhhh …. Oooooohhhhhh … Star of wonder!  Star of Night!  Star with royal beauty bright!  It is leaning!  Too heavy seeming!!”

Hilarious!!  Absolutely hilarious! This would definitely be a Christmas song which brings me joy!

Today’s blog post is:  What 3 songs bring you joy?

The two above songs are a bit of a cheat … since they are simply the verse and the chorus of the exact same song (“We Three Kings“).  Nevertheless … I will continue to the third song.

Have you ever wondered:  What’s up with the song, “I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day.”  Strange song.  At least I’ve always thought it somewhat strange.

So, with this song in mind, I decorated our fireplace mantle for Christmas a few years ago.

Join with me in singing:
I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day!
I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas Day in the morning.

And what was in those ships all three?  On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day!
And what was in those ships all three?  On Christmas Day in the morning.

The virgin Mary and Christ were there, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day!
The virgin Mary and Christ were there, on Christmas Day in the morning!

And all the angels in Heaven shall sing, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day!
And all the angels in Heaven shall sing, on Christmas Day in the morning!

(Of course, the Heavenly host of angels singing needed a ship too!) Hahaha!!  Definitely a song to bring some joy!!

What about you?  What 3 songs bring you joy?
