I shared a few blog posts ago that this is the first year the deer have not eaten off all my Bunchberry Dogwoods … and as a result, our front flowerbed has been a sea of beautiful dogwood groundcover with pretty little white dogwood blooms.

My Bunchberry Dogwoods have brought me so much joy this past month!
The dogwood blooms are now reaching the end of their life cycle, and to my great surprise I discovered the blooms are turning bright pink! I had no idea.

As I have gazed at the beautiful white petals turning brilliant pink, it has brought to mind the Legend of the Dogwood (which I heard as a young girl when I was growing up). According to the Legend of the Dogwood, the four petals represent the cross, while the red stains on the petals represent Christ’s bloodshed.
To be honest, as a young girl I had never seen dogwood petals turn pink before.
But now, as I gaze in awe and wonder at the beauty of the petals turning pink, I can’t help but thank Jesus for his sacrificial death for me.
And as I look out over the sea of beautiful dogwood blooms in the front flowerbed, I can’t help but think how each little white bloom could represent each individual person in the world. Every person matters! Every person is beautiful and special!
And Jesus died for every single person.
As each of the little dogwood blooms, one-by-one, turns bright pink, I can’t help but think how in the same way, one-by-one Jesus’s blood covers each person to forgive them of their sin. But it’s an individual thing. Each person must make the decision to accept Jesus’s gift of sacrifice & forgiveness for themselves.

Thank you God for the joy of discovering dogwood blooms turn bright pink!
Thank you Jesus for sacrificing your life, and dying for each of us, to forgive us of our sin.
