Hubby and I had the opportunity to participate in the most fantastic Easter event this year – a Helicopter Egg Drop! Does that not sound cool!
I wrote last April about our good friend coming to visit us, and about our ferry ride over to the Bremerton Naval shipyards (and about our stuffing our face with cheesecake outside the free mini-museum). Well, it just so happened that hubby and I were on his end of the country this year for Easter weekend. We were only 2-hrs. away from where he lives. So, we reached out to see about getting together.
As it turned out, his church was hosting a Helicopter Egg Drop the Saturday before Easter and he was going to be volunteering at the event. He invited us to come join the fun!
Absolutely!
We’ll be there!
So, hubby and I drove down to join in the festivities of the Helicopter Egg Drop!
There were 3 different “drops.” The first “drop” was at 11:30am and this was for all little kids ages Pre K – K5. The second “drop” was at 12:00 noon and this was for kids in grades 1-3. The third “drop” was at 12:30pm and this was for kids in grades 4-6.
Hubby and I settled ourselves in a good spot with a good vantage point, up on the hill and underneath some trees in the shade (it was 79 degrees!) 90’s Worship music was cranking from big speakers just behind us, creating a festive atmosphere, as little kids swarmed everywhere! There were free bouncy houses! Free carnival games! A dunk tank was going on! Lines for free cotton candy and free popcorn! Face-painting!
The helicopter’s rotors started spinning!
The sound of the “whirr!” filled the air as the helicopter lifted off the ground! The excitement was palpable!
Little kids dropped everything they were doing and went running!

The carnival games were abandoned … the free cotton candy was abandoned … the free popcorn was abandoned … as all little kids went running with excitement!
The helicopter rose into the air and hovered just above the large open grassy field, as church volunteers in the helicopter dumped out huge garbage-bag-fulls of bright colorful Easter eggs! It was beyond exciting to watch all those colorful Easter eggs come raining down from above!

For the past several weeks leading up to the Helicopter Egg Drop the church members had been stopping by the church during any free time they had to help fill Easter eggs with candy and goodies and then tape the Easter eggs closed (so they wouldn’t pop open upon landing). In total, the church gave away 14,000 Easter eggs that day!
That is a lot of goodness coming down from above!
With it being Easter weekend, I of course couldn’t help but think how Jesus Christ himself was the greatest gift ever to come down from above! That is the whole reason we celebrate Easter!
The verse popped into my mind: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” – James 1:17
Imagine that you are a little kid, standing there along a bright sunny field, as from above, wonderful Easter eggs of goodness from God Himself are raining down for you!
If we are a follower of Jesus Christ, then God calls us his “children.”
So, there we each are … God’s kids … holding our baskets in our hands, jumping up and down with excitement as we watch a stunning cascade of colorful Easter eggs of goodness falling down from above – for us!
There is no limit to how many Easter eggs we can gather! There are more than enough for everyone!
We go running out into the open grassy field covered in brilliantly-colored Easter eggs of goodness which have rained down for us from above!
We stoop down and pick up an iridescent shimmery white Easter egg. We open it up … and inside we discover: God is my courage! Boy do I ever need that! (“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8) What a wonderful treat to have courage from God rained down from above just for me!
We run over to pick up a sparkly pink Easter egg. We open it up … and inside we discover: God is my provider! Boy do I ever need that too! (“God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19) I’m loving this Heavenly Easter Egg Drop!
We reach down and retrieve a pastel-green Easter egg. Inside we discover: God is my strength! I really needed that! I feel so weak right now! (“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:13) Thank you God for your goodness raining down from above for me!
We pick up a shimmery pastel-blue Easter egg. Inside we find: God is my help! I really need help! (“The LORD is my helper; I will not be afraid.” – Hebrews 13:6) Thank you God for being my help!
Oh, there’s a pastel-purple Easter egg! Inside, just for us we find: God is my rest! Oh I could really use some rest! I’m absolutely worn out with life! (“Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28) Thank you God for being my rest!
A bright yellow Easter egg catches our eye! We open it up and inside for us is: God is my light! (“The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear.” – Psalm 27:1) Thank you God for being my light, no matter how dark life around me feels.
A pastel-pink Easter egg holds: God is my protector! (“You God will protect me from trouble.” – Psalm 32:7) Thank you God for protecting me!
We open up a bright blue Easter egg to find: God is my refuge! (“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1) Thank you God for being my refuge!

We run over and pick up a pastel-orange Easter egg. Inside it holds: God is with me! (“The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. The LORD is with me; He is my helper.” – Psalm 118:6-7) Thank you God for being with me!
Our basket is filling up!
We are able to gather as many Easter eggs of goodness as we want!
We don’t have to push or shove.
We don’t have to clamor to get our Easter eggs of goodness before they’re all gone.
The field is covered everywhere with God’s Easter eggs of goodness for us!
We pick up a pastel-yellow Easter egg. Inside we find: God loves me! (“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23) Thank you God for loving me!
An iridescent shimmery orange Easter egg holds: God is my peace! (“The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind.” – Philippians 4:7) Thank you God for giving me peace!
God’s goodness coming down for us from above isn’t just a one-time event at Easter.
God pours down his goodness for us every normal ordinary day.
Each new day that we live and breathe … God has goodness and blessings especially for us in that day!
But we can’t gather God’s Easter eggs of goodness if we are distracted. We’ve got to be paying attention. When the “whirr!” of the helicopter’s rotors start up … we’ve got to notice. We’ve got to drop everything and go running!
God has goodness which he is raining down into your life!
What are you discovering in your Easter eggs of goodness today?
